Tell me if this sounds familiar: you started an Instagram page for your business, you’re posting on Facebook regularly, or you may have already started using Facebook groups to find clients for your business, but you’re just not seeing the results that you want to see.

As much as you try to engage, you’re still not landing your dream clients.

Facebook Groups can be a great place to find clients, and today I’m going to share some tips (seriously, they are gold) on how to really spark engagement inside of these groups.

I’ll start from the beginning by helping you to define your ideal client and then share 5 very specific strategies you can use to stand out in Facebook groups!

Defining Your Ideal Client

But we have to start from the beginning, right? Before you can engage with or find your dream client, you need to target who that person is. If you haven’t created your ideal client avatar yet, it’s time to get on that, sister! You need to have a really clear picture in your head of the kind of person you want to serve, what their interests are, where their pain points are, where they hang out, and what you can offer them. Always have this person in your head as you are communicating on social media. The more you think about serving this dream client, the more authentic and engaging your interactions will be. Come from a true place of service, and you will be amazed at the response you get.

For me, my ideal client is a successful and soulful female life coach between the ages of 30 and 45. She is already kicking butt in her business, she’s raking in 6 figures, but she wants to spend less time working in her business and more time enjoying her life and finding fulfillment. I know that she loves shopping at Anthropologie, going to yoga classes, practicing mindful and compassionate parenting, and that she probably loves finding great gluten free cookie recipes. She understands techie stuff, but doesn’t enjoy doing it. She hates answering emails and would prefer that someone else manage her calendar. Aesthetics and authenticity are important to her in her business. She loves non-toxic beauty products and essential oils. Yeah, I get that specific with my client avatar because when I have that person in my mind, I know exactly how to communicate on social media in a way that will connect with her. And if this sounds too specific to you, guess what, all of my clients fit about 90% of that description. So don’t be afraid to really narrow it down.

Alright, now that you’ve narrowed down your ideal client avatar, it’s time to find the Facebook groups where they hang out. For me, I would join groups for soulful entrepreneurs or life coaches. Do some research on this. Find groups that are big, but not too big, and that have a lot of interaction. They should feel alive and full of energy.

Start Engaging

Once you’re in, it’s time to start engaging. The most important thing to avoid is to come off as spammy or sales-y. That’s a great way to turn people off and get kicked out of groups. I’ll say it again: always come from a place of service, keeping your ideal client in mind. With that said, I’m going to share 5 very specific ways that you can engage in these groups to get really positive attention on you and your business.

  1. Start off by being conversational and fun: show a picture of your workspace, a cute picture of your kids, ask for opinions on a new outfit you bought. Don’t ever go into a group and immediately start saying things like “I’m offering virtual assistant services for 10% off this month”. It will turn people off and it won’t be fun for you. Remember that social media can be fun if it’s about establishing true connections!
  2. Post a video introduction. It is ALWAYS engaging to see a video of someone introducing themselves and really showcasing their personality. Share where you live, what you like to do for fun, talk about your family, and THEN slip in a little bit about what you do. And trust me, I know it can be scary to get in front of the camera, but it is soooo worth it. Remember to smile, be in a well-lit place, and be yourself!
  3. Ask for opinions! A great way to share what you do without seeming spammy or sales-y is to ask for feedback. Ask what the group thinks about your new logo for your virtual assistant business, ask what services are most needed in the specific industry, share a list of your services and ask if there’s anything that they would add, share your new website and ask for opinions. This is a great way to shed some light on what you do without directly selling your services. And remember: always make sure that you are following the rules of the specific group. Some Facebook groups don’t allow people to share their own links.
  4. Comment on other people’s posts. This is how you show your expertise! If someone asks for help or advice, give thoughtful and well-researched answers. Comment with words of support or encouragement when someone shares something. Give compliments! Shine your light, girl! If you come across as positive and supportive, people will want to know how they can work with you.
  5. Share tutorials! This is a great way to establish yourself as an expert AND as someone that is excited to serve others. Share a screenshare of a cool Pinterest trick you just learned or an awesome Trello board you created to keep things organized. Show a system you created for managing your email account. This is a subtle and helpful way to showcase your skills. People will be grateful and want to learn more about what you can do.

And remember, boss babe, consistency is always key when it comes to engagement. You don’t have to be in all the Facebook groups all day every day, but schedule time in your calendar to check in every day at a certain time. If you show up in these groups as a consistent, helpful, and friendly presence, I’m sure you’ll find that your ideal client will be dying to work with you.

Thanks so much for listening. I am so so grateful that you are a part of my community. Remember, working at home doesn’t have to be lonely! We’re all in this together. I’ll see you soon, babe!
