Do you feel like you’re doing it all right, following all the strategies, and doing all the things, but you’re still not landing clients?

This can be so frustrating and disheartening and can even lead a lot of virtual assistants to quit before they even have a chance to get started.

I’ve noticed that there are usually just a few subtle but key changes you need to make in order to start landing those clients.

In this episode of The Support Squad, I’m sharing 5 reasons you’re still not landing clients and how to fix them to become a client magnet. If you’re ready to get the ball rolling, you’ll love this episode!

Tune in to hear:

  • Why building a website and posting on social media isn’t enough
  • How offering more services is actually costing you clients
  • The surprising truth about your rates
  • Why it’s important to have a cohesive visual brand

Reason #1 “If You Build It They Will Come”

Who else loves the movie Field of Dreams? I might be really dating myself here, but in case you haven’t seen it, in the movie Kevin Costner hears a voice that tells him to build a baseball field in the middle of his cornfield.

He doesn’t why, but he does it, ghosts of baseball players start showing up, and magically people start coming from all over to pay to visit this baseball field.

Wouldn’t it be great if our businesses could be like that? If we could just set up our websites and social media accounts and the clients came running?

Unfortunately, that’s not quite how it works.

You can’t expect clients to just magically find you. You have to consistently be putting yourself in front of clients by engaging with them on social media, popping into their DMs, networking in Facebook Groups, and even direct prospecting.

Taking a passive approach to your business will NOT lead you to success.

Reason #2 You’re Lacking Clarity

A lot of times, when virtual assistants aren’t landing clients they think it’s because they need to offer more services and have more skills.

But usually what’s actually going on is that you’re offering way too much and potential clients can’t tell the difference between you and all the other virtual assistants out there.

2 amazing things happen when you specialize and niche down your services:

  1. You’re off the hook from learning every new skill and software out there because you only have to focus on 1 or 2 things.
  2. Clients are drawn to you because they are very clear about what you offer.

I could talk about why you need to specialize your services all day. It is something I am so passionate about. If you want to learn my method for choosing a profitable specialty, make sure to sign up for my Spotlight Your Specialty workshop.

Reason #3 Your Prices Are Too Low

Just like how you might think you need to add on more services to find clients, you also might think that you need to drastically reduce your rates to find clients.

Again, the opposite is true.

Have you ever heard the expression “you get what you pay for?”

When clients see a service provider that is charging very low rates they automatically assume that the services will not be as high quality as a similar service provider charging higher rates.

Your low rates could actually be REPELLING your ideal clients.

Nothing good comes from charging low rates. It brings down the average for the whole industry (which isn’t going to win you brownie points with other service providers), it makes clients think that your services are low quality, and it prevents you from being profitable!

Bring up those rates and start attracting those high quality clients!

Reason #4 You’re Not Being Direct

“Visit my website to learn more”, “Let me know if you have questions”, and “check it out if you’re interested” are NOT powerful calls to action.

Whether it’s on your website, in your marketing, or in your discovery calls, you need to be speaking with powerful, confident language.

Powerful language sounds like “I only have 2 spots available! Book your discovery call at the link in my bio before they’re gone.“ or “DM me ‘Interested’ to get more information about this service.”

You have to tell people exactly what you need them to do!

This is especially true in Discovery Calls. A Discovery Call should always end with a decision being made one way or the other. You don’t want to tell a client to “think it over” or “reach out if they have questions.”

You want to say something more along the lines of “when do you want to start?” or “which level of investment are you ready for?”

Be very direct and don’t leave anything up for interpretation.

Reason #5 Your Visual Branding is a Mess

It is so important that we present a polished, cohesive image across all platforms and in our marketing.

Why would a client trust us with their business if our own looks amateur?

Hey, I get it. Most of us do not start our virtual assistant businesses with tons of graphic design experience and training so we have to DIY it.

But starting from scratch can lead to some not so pretty results.
