Owning your own business and creating your own schedule sounds pretty incredible, right?

It sure sounded awesome to me when I first started as a virtual assistant!

But it wasn’t long before things started to get out of whack,

I’d be on the floor playing with my 2-year-old son feeling guilty for not working.

Then I’d be on my laptop while he watched tv feeling guilty for not being present with him.

No matter where I was, I felt like I was letting someone down.

Recently, my pal and Productivity Consultant Tracy Lynn Morgan introduced me to the concept of values-based productivity.

It’s about recognizing the things that are most important to us and knowing that any time spent on those things should be considered as productive.

(i.e. productivity is not just about our output and results in our work, it’s also about connection with our kids/experiences that we enjoy/quality time with our spouse.)

In today’s podcast episode, Tracy is teaching us how to integrate all the pieces of our life, so that we can build a profitable business around a lifestyle we love.

Keep reading to learn how to set up your work and your life for the season that you’re in, so that you can achieve more fulfillment (without sacrificing profit.)

Let me tell you a little bit about Tracy:

What do we do when our day doesn't go as planned?

When we talk about work/life balance and how elusive it is, we're talking about this 50/50 spread, right? That's not necessarily realistic. It ebbs and flows.

Another way to frame work-life integration is really about building and setting up your life for the season of life that you're in because those things change. When you can really sync your life with who you are, what's really important to you, your values, and what you really want  from the season that you're in, then you're more likely to feel fulfilled.

How do we deal with “mom guilt” as business owners?

At the beginning of your week set an intention of - what would be enough? What would feel good to you?

One of my habits every week is to make sure that I spend 10 minutes a day of quality time in each of my children's worlds. So I step in - no phones, no nothing. I stay completely connected in whatever they want me to do within reason,

I find that if I don't actually set that intention, then it doesn't happen. And it's amazing. It's only 10 minutes. It's not a lot, but in their world it makes a big difference.

What is values-based productivity?

Productivity is all about creating or having an output or really driving towards something that is important - you know, the high values.

You can think about productive time in work, where you're actually producing a result, but you can also look at the value on the other side, that productive time is sitting down with your kids and being really connected and really intentional.

Don't feel guilty when you're in each individual thing if you're getting what you need from that moment.

My favorite way to stay productive & focused on the most important things? One word: TEMPLATES.

I have an aversion to creating things from scratch - because I know it is taking my time away from the things that will move my business forward.

To support virtual assistants like you in getting your business off-the-ground in style, I created Brand with Bliss.
