For many virtual assistants, it can feel comfortable to be the eternal sidekick, hanging in the background and helping our clients shine. Let me be clear: there is nothing wrong with being the right-hand gal to high-powered business owners. It can be an empowering and fulfilling role to be in, which is why I love virtual assisting so much,

However, when we can get the confidence to step into the spotlight (even just a smidge) and show ourselves more authentically, we open ourselves up to higher-quality clients and a business that feels totally aligned with us.

This might sound scary, but brand embodiment coach Trish Taylor, my guest on the podcast today, has a way of teaching you to show up that feels simple and fun. Keep listening if you want to learn how to create a personal brand and use visual storytelling to start attracting those aligned clients into your business.

Tune in to hear:

  • Why it’s important for virtual assistants to create a personal brand
  • How to use visual storytelling to attract aligned clients do your business
  • The importance of using content categories to create a focused and authentic social media presence

On Why It’s Important for Virtual Assistants to Have a Personal Brand:

I think whether we want to or not, we have to own that we are a personal brand, right? You are providing a service differently than another virtual assistant. It is about your niche, but it's also about your personality and your lifestyle.

How do you want to serve? Who are you and how do you want to work? If these things don't align with your client and the people that you’re attracting, if you’re not setting clear boundaries on how you want to be seen,  this specialty you want to have, or move in the direction that's going to make you happy, you're going to start to resent your clients.

On Using Visual Storytelling:

That's something that stops people like: “Oh, I don't have a dedicated office space or my house doesn't really look clea, how am I going to film? Or I don't know what to wear or my wardrobe just doesn't feel like me anymore.

We have all of these little obstacles that we're putting in front of ourselves. We're arguing for these limitations. There's different ways that we can show up and support ourselves.

If you want to tell a visual story, you can create a little backdrop in a corner of your home and set up your camera there every time it's consistent, that's you. They recognize you with that specific color, that specific background, whatever it is.

The really important thing about showing up in relating with your visual storytelling is actually creating stories that your people identify with things that align with you.

On Creating Content Categories:

When you're batching your content: what are the things that we want to talk about? But then we take it a step further and we say: what do we want to be known for? And then: where do we want to point people to?

And so for me: I have categories around style, I have categories around body confidence, I have categories that talk about  branding specifically, right.

But if you're a health coach, maybe it's mindfulness, maybe it's nutrition, maybe it's a busy schedule. We want to paint a picture.
